- 1/2 cup brown sugar (100 g)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup sourdough discard or active starter (189 g)
- 1/2 cup milk or water (122 g)
- 1 cup chocolate chips or dark chocolate chunks
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan and line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
- In another bowl, beat melted butter, sugar, and brown sugar until well combined. Add vanilla extract and eggs, mixing until smooth.
- Stir in the sourdough discard and milk until fully incorporated.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a handful for topping.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle with remaining chocolate chips.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Slice and enjoy!
