- 1 cup active sourdough starter
- ½ cup whole milk, warmed
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 large egg
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup dark chocolate, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- Make the Dough: In a bowl, mix sourdough starter, warm milk, honey, egg, and butter until combined. Gradually add flour and salt, kneading until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rise overnight.
- Prepare Chocolate Filling: Melt dark chocolate and mix with cocoa powder and brown sugar until smooth. Let it cool slightly.
- Roll & Spread: Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the chocolate filling evenly over the dough.
- Shape into Knots: Fold the dough in half, then slice into strips. Twist and tie each strip into a knot. Arrange on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 2 hours.
- Bake & Enjoy: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush knots with melted butter and bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before serving.
