  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup warm milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sourdough discard, honey, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Add the flour, salt, egg, and softened butter. Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Divide the dough into 6-8 equal portions. Shape into round buns and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the buns with egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  5. Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
