- 1 cup active sourdough starter
- 1 cup whole milk, warmed
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 4 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a mixing bowl, combine sourdough starter, warm milk, sugar, butter, egg, salt, flour, and cocoa powder. Knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rise overnight.
- Roll out & add filling: Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle brown sugar and chocolate chips evenly.
- Shape the rolls: Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 12 rolls. Place in a greased baking dish and let rise for 1-2 hours.
- Bake until golden: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes until puffed and cooked through.
- Prepare glaze & serve: Mix powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla. Drizzle over warm rolls and enjoy!
