  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 4 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a mixing bowl, combine sourdough starter, warm milk, sugar, butter, egg, salt, flour, and cocoa powder. Knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rise overnight.
  2. Roll out & add filling: Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle brown sugar and chocolate chips evenly.
  3. Shape the rolls: Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 12 rolls. Place in a greased baking dish and let rise for 1-2 hours.
  4. Bake until golden: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes until puffed and cooked through.
  5. Prepare glaze & serve: Mix powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla. Drizzle over warm rolls and enjoy!
